About Teppa Books

‘Teppa Books’ bookshop is run by and behalf of charity SWORDE-Teppa. The book shop is non-profit making and its sole purpose is to generate funds for our charitable objects as set out on the Charity Commission for England and Wales website. These funds are sent direct to the projects in the field within a day, with no admin, HQ, salaries or overhead costs in the UK. We are all volunteers in the UK. No funds are wasted and all funds are spent wisely and transparently where they are most needed.

Charity SWORDE-Teppa is a small charity, established in Tonbridge, by local Tonbridge resident Paul Marchant in 2003. Charity SWORDE-Teppa (SWORDE = Sustainable Development within the Environment, Teppa means ‘Hill’ in ancient Tajik). Why Teppa? SWORDE-Teppa's donations

Our main library in Qurghonteppa is the largest English language library in Tajikistan, with some 32,000 books, booklets, journals, magazines, maps, videos, CDs and DVDs (reported by the Guardian Newspaper and other media in the past). Most of the books sent to Tajikistan came from the Tonbridge area, shipped in containers back in 2006 and 2007. Most of these books came from Tonbridge and Larkfield libraries and former Mr. Books Mark Richardson (when the shop was in Castle Street). Other books have also been added more recently from other kind donors.

We have established eight English language libraries in southern Tajikistan and support local museums , local disabled groups, local orphanages and other community initiatives. We help less fortunate and vulnerable in society, by providing opportunities, education, training and projects to build a better future for themselves, their families and their community, whilst at the same time promoting the protection of the environment.
